The Axis of our Being

The heart is formed of the earth. It knows only of infinite, sacred abundance. Its natural state is open beyond open. When told the story of less, the nervous system rebels. The true heart is expansive - an everlasting horizon where earth and sky kiss.

The heart is as vast and spacious as the sky. It beats with electrical stardust. The measurement of its height and depth are both limitless.

In the heart, we experience the marriage of our two aspects - the union of the human and the being. The external world and the internal emotions gather in this meeting space we know as home. It is here we blend heaven and earth, soul and body. Our emotions begin in the heart on the axis of the horizontal human experience. It also contains the axis for the vertical dimension of our eternal being. The portal to soul. This is where our divinity as the unmanifest essence, meets its physical counterpart - the manifest aspect of our impermanence. Everything relates to everything else within this coalescing space. The axis of our being.

The heart is where reality collapses in on itself and where it all expands out from. This is our personal convergence of Big Bang energy. Some physicists imagine that one day, the Universe will have expanded out to its farthest possible expression, and then begin its return journey inwards - a collapse of space will fall back into its heart until it’s once again an unimaginably small speck of infinitely concentrated energy. We currently ride along its bellowing outward breath, expanding with the fabric of space before it breathes the return inhalation. This cosmological theory is called the Big Bounce. If it is true, we have no way of knowing how many times the Universe has expanded and retreated to begin this process again. If this is but one exhalation, how many breaths has it made? Can we see that we live like this too?

Centered from the heart - the first organ that comes alive within our mother’s womb - we grow and expand. We exist as stardust that has inexplicably become a person with the potential for awakened consciousness. And then we reach a point in our manifest expression of our pinnacle - the farthest we can express in body - and we make the journey back to our centre point into the pure divinity of which we arose. Expansion back to contraction, to then expand again and again. For what purpose other than the delight of this dance, we do not know. This is all a journey in and out of the heart. Our heart is the heart of creation. We breathe ourselves in and out of unity consciousness.

We know the Universe is not eternal, because it is manifest. It has form, and can therefore cave-in on itself, or reach a point of its expansion where it has thinned out too much, causing it to freeze. Consciousness however is not manifest, it is eternal. It is the mysterious creative intelligence behind all of this magic. Within the realm of our heart, we experience our relationship to this very physical place, and we feel the miracle of our fleeting existence. This organ is the first in the body to be created and its last beat will coincide with our last breath. We can live in our body after our brain dies, but not so without a living heart. Its aliveness is vital to our existence. We are both impermanent human and eternal being all at once. The breakable and the unbreakable. Our fullness is realised when we live as fully embodied souls, expressing ourselves from this vast open space of pure energy, right in the middle of our chest. Grounded into our fullness so that any external energy is only witnessed, rather than inhabited as interference.

The heart is where duality is reconciled.

If we agree with this model of the Universe, we can see how everything surrounding us came to being from the smallest little seed of pure potential. This singular seed of energy that opened the Universe like a flower with the Big Bang. If this is the heart of the entire Universe, the soul of which is Source itself, imagine this heart has expanded to give us life. We are in the heart as fragments of the infinite heart, to experience ourselves as conscious points of perspective. Our greatest purpose is to focus, to come into the moment completely, living in pure delighted harmony with the present, and to awaken to this miracle of life.

The profound practice of connecting to the Universe within ourselves is enough to move us all into the heart. When we come home to ourselves as the home, we awaken to our inherent connection with each other. Breathing in, I feel the presence of you within my heart. Breathing out, I feel the presence of me within your heart. We can rise out of the dualistic dream of discrimination, out of complexes that keep us apart and live in reverence for each other as life itself. We are divinity, here to know itself as divine.

The whole awakened self is who we really are - the True Self. This pilgrimage is a return journey, taking us home to the realm of our soul - the inner sanctuary of the heart. Breathe in.
